The Miata, which has single-handedly revived the pleasure of open air driving associated with cars like the MGB GT and Lotus Elan, is the worldΓÇÖs best selling sport car. In fact, one out of every four sport cars sold in the States is a Miata. At the heart of this pretty roadster is a 1.8-liter DOHC 16-valve engine, producing 133 horsepower, which has been highly praised for excellent low-end to medium torque and smoothness.
For 1997, a new Touring Package which includes alloy wheels, power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power mirrors and windows, and door map pockets. This is in addition to the other three options: the performance-oriented R package, the Popular Equipment package and the luxurious Leather package.
The Popular package includes power-assisted steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power mirrors and windows, cruise control, headrest speakers, alloy wheels and limited slip rear differential. The Leather package includes the Popular package plus a tan interior with leather seats and tan vinyl top. while the R package for the sporty driver features a limited slip rear differential, alloy wheels, sport suspension with Bilstein shocks and an aero kit consisting of front and rear spoilers and a lower rear skirt. All 1997 models come with dual airbags and meet new side impact standards.
